Karwa Chauth - 08-10-2017

The Sanskrit word of fasting is ' Upavaasa '. ' Upa'  means to be near and 'V aasa ' means to reside.. To try and be as close to God as possible. I usually don't fast. Nor do I observe particular days of the week or month as Vrat. But, I have always wondered why do only women's keep Vrat. And on this Karwa Chauth I was answered, YES my FIRST Karwa Chauth. What is Karwa Chauth? The significance of this day, It falls on the 4th day of the Kartik month every year. On this day it is customary for the wife to fast the whole day. She does not drink water either. She paints her hands and feet with henna, dresses generally in red apparel and on her hair parting she smears vermilion powder. There are legends associated with the Karwa Chauth festival. In some tellings, the tales are interlinked and some are frame story for another.
