A Whiff of Royalty in 'The Pink City' - 3rd Dec 2017

Jaipur - The capital of Rajasthan. It was our first visit to the a romantic pink hue pervading everything in Jaipur, hence the nickname "Pink City". Attending a friend's marriage was the main reason behind the visit to Jaipur. But the suspense lies in why we reached 2 days before the function.

Unexpectedly, time flies like a blink of an eye. The question is what flew in a blink of an eye - The times of our lives, like there's no one else around - First Marriage Anniversary. To celebrate our time we secretly escaped to Jaipur in a Royal environment two days before the marriage we were here to attend. I can sum up as, marriage was just an excuse to visit to Jaipur, suspense lies in the Royal celebration of our anniversary.

Day 1: Jaipur Welcomes us

We checked in to Hotel Acro palace, Sindhi Camp area (Yes metro train runs in this area.)in afternoon. About the hotel, it was a OYO room with all the amenities along the free in-hotel internet access. To explore the pink city we choose to experience Jaipur Metro first.

Sindhi Camp Station

As we wandered around the streets of Jaipur to catch some beautiful lac bangles we wandered though the streets of Chand Pol to Tripolia Bazar and reached Hawa Mahal.

Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal, the romantic pink sandstone fortress cascading over the streets of Jaipur also known as Palace of winds. Today the structure still stands as proudly as ever. The landmark "honeycomb" facade reaches five stories high and is made up of 152 windows (Jharokhas) nestled into rounded latticed balconies, exemplifying the strong yet delicate Rajput architecture in all its splendor.

Street shopping at the Hawa Mahal, best for varieties of Rajasthani juthi/mojadies made from leather, souvenirs, gift articles, some leheriya dress materials as well.

After spending around two hours at Hawa Mahal and sun was dropping towards horizon a small of sunlight was shining through the window of Hawa Mahal. Indeed Hawa Mahal looks royal in evening. Hawa Mahal provides a mesmerizing glimpse into the lifestyle that the kings and queens led.

The day ends with the famous Malai Kulfi near the Hawa Mahal road. Malai Kulfi is the best desert after lunch/dinner.

Day 2: Anniversary Day

The day starts with the sight seeing at intriguing Jal Mahal. It is a five storied palace of which the first four floors are submerged in water. The Pink City has many breath taking monuments but Jal Mahal is one of the most astonishing among them.

The Jal Mahal is around 5KM from the center of Jaipur City. It is accessible by autos, bus or cabs. If you are adventurous you can try local bus service.

You can enjoy elephant and camel ride on the Jal Mahal road. The best part of Jal Mahal is the street food which you can enjout on your way back from Amer/Amber Fort when hunger engulfs you.

The foreigners find these elephants fascinating
Our next destination was to Amer Fort. It is well connected by public. The sand-colored walls of Amer Fort is breathtaking which fade in the surrounding hillside.

The Amer Fort

Once we got past the incessantly insistent guides at the entrance of the Amer Fort we could start observing its various aspects. We personally avoided audio guide to enjoy the scenic beauty of the 16th-17th century. One can expect few hours at fort but end up spending an entire day there. We sat on the grounds of the front yard, enjoying the breeze.

Our love for Silhouette snap.

Signing off to Amer Fort

To the diminishing light we headed back to our hotel and this time by city bus service. Till now we have had experienced the metro, cab, city bus. The one that was pending was the electric Eco-friendly auto which runs on electric motor in Jaipur.

On reaching hotel it was almost the end of the day, though it was not the end of our celebration. We ended it our special dinner.

Dinner: Sizzler and soup
Don't miss me...

We are signing off Jaipur
